COLOR OFFSET
PRINTED ON BACK
STAMPS ARE NOT FOR SALE
In press offsets are happen when a printing plate leaves a fully inked impression on an underlying mat because the press skips a sheet or a foldover occurs. The next sheet receives normal inked impressions on the top side as well as a reversed impression on the gummed side. Each subsequent sheet would have less and less of an impression as less ink is transferred to the back of the stamp. Normally these stamps are pulled out of the printing process and destroyed.

FAKE 1463 FAKE
The 1463 was produced on a andreotti press were the ink is
lifted out of
the plate by the paper similar to engraved printing. If an inked cylinder
were to strike a mat without paper between, the ink would remain recessed
in the cylinders etchings. What makes this stamp even more mysterious is that it
seems to have originated from Italy.
